Duval County Public Schools Provides Winter Packets for Continued Learning over the Holiday Break

Duval County Public Schools is providing winter packets to the community to continue enriching the academic success of all students.

All K-12 students, parents and community members are encouraged to log onto and print out grade appropriate materials for students during the winter break. Math, reading and science worksheets are available, as well as links to online assistance for all students.

ExxonMobil Bernark Harris Math & Science Scholarships

Named for the first African American to walk in space, ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships are now available for 2011 graduating high school seniors in school districts represented by the Council of the Great City Schools.

Four scholarships for two males and two females -- $5,000 each -- will be awarded to two African American and two Hispanic students on behalf of the former NASA astronaut, physician and businessman, Dr. Bernard Harris. Deadline for submissions is April 1, 2011.

Apply for a $1,500 scholarship from USA Funds!

For the 2011-2012 academic year USAFunds will award $1,500 scholarships to students with economic need. Up to 50% of the scholarships for post secondary education will be targeted to high school seniors who, in addition to demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic minority group or are physically disabled.
They will accept applications online at between December 15, 2010 and February 15, 2011. Details about this scholarship program currently are posted on that website.

2011 GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE Vocal Competitons

“a vocal competition in the individual performance of arranged Negro spirituals, to provide African-American senior high school students a chance to earn tuition assistance grants for college matriculation”
A tuition assistance grant in the amount of $3,000 and a cash prize in the amount of $300 will be awarded to adjudged first place winners in the separate categories of Female Vocalist and Male Vocalist. A tuition assistance grant in the amount of $2,000 and a cash prizes in the amount of  $200 will be awarded to adjudged second place winners in the same categories. Grant monies are supplied directly to an accredited institution of higher learning where a winner is actually accepted and enrolled within two years of date of graduation from high school. A cash prize in the amount of $100 will be awarded to each remaining entrant selected as a finalists. All participants will be recognized for their achievement with certificates.
Senior high students (grades 11-12) of Afro-ethnic heritage who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently attending an accredited school in any district of the state of Florida are eligible. Individuals who are currently contracted with musical or theatrical professional management are not eligible. Previous recipients of and GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE tuition assistance grant are not eligible to return to competition.

The It’s HER Business Teen Entrepreneurship Conference is a one-day conference for girls ages 15-18 enrolled in high school. It is designed to encourage financial literacy and help girls learn about starting businesses and managing personal finances through interactive games and hands-on activities. We use successful local business women as conference facilitators/mentors to share their ideas and experiences with the participants. This event brings parents, students, school administration, and women business owners together in one forum and has so far exposed over 500 young women to a whole new world of opportunities.

Introducing the Students in Service Awards!

The award recognizes two young female social entrepreneurs, ages 14 to 17, whose initiatives serve the common good. Winners are given awards of $2000 aimed at sustainable social change.
Each girl must have her own social enterprise aimed at sustainable social change; be supported by contributions of at least $1000 (cash and/or in-kind), and have a business plan, including an itemized budget. Special consideration will be given to nominees from West Virginia and metropolitan Washington, DC. Self-nominations are accepted.

The Fulgham-Fulghum Family National Association, Inc. (FFFNA) is a non-profit educational, historical, and genealogical research society incorporated in the State of Florida. FFFNA is tax-exempt under US IRS Internal Revenue Code, paragraph 501 (c)(7). Our mission is to study, research, interpret, and preserve family history and the achievements of our family and related families through the ages. We promote family interaction. We stimulate interest in family history by funding and maintaining active research programs, and by supplying historical and genealogical information on our family and related families to interested persons and the public. We further stimulate interest in family history and genealogy through reunions with exhibits, programs, workshops, and lectures. The interactions of our family, and related families, with World history are studied to provide insight into the achievements of our family in important historical, governmental, and religious movements of the time.

FSU Service Scholar Program

Florida State University is pleased to present the application for the Service Scholar Program for the 2011- 2012 academic year. The Service Scholar Program recognizes select incoming students with an outstanding record of community service and leadership, and who want to continue that commitment at FSU. The Program benefits include a scholarship valued at $2,400 per year for up to four years, exposure to a diverse group of individuals and social issues, and numerous leadership opportunities.

An important part of continuing the success of this extraordinary Program is recruiting excellent incoming students. International Young Eco-Hero Awards

Our International Young Eco-Heroes Awards program recognizes and encourages children and teens who have completed a project to “foster respect and affection for nature through personal action.” And our book Acting for Nature shows how effective personal action can be. They need High School and College students during the week of December 27th – 30th to help us sort clothing. They have two 3 & 1/2 hour shifts each day, one at 8:30am-12:00pm and another at 12:30pm-4:00pm. Free lunch at noon and cool raffle prizes throughout the day!

Scholarship of the Day: President's Student Service Awards

The awards recognize & honor community service volunteers in areas of youth achievement, parks/open spaces, healthy communities, & public safety/community response. Different awards are given out based by category based on number of volunteer hours. There are separate categories for kids 14 & under and young adults 15-25. The award consists of the Official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin; Personalized certificate of achievement; and a note of congratulations from the President of the United States.

The K & C Pet Rescue and Adoption Society is taking Santa photographs with pets three weekends in December. They need volunteers to take photographs, talk with the pet owners waiting in line and coordinating wait time. They are planning on the usual K & C volunteers working hands on with the actual pets -- not school volunteers.

JCI Senators of Florida Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Program

Each year the JCI Senators of Florida Foundation, Inc. provides a $1000.00 scholarship to a student graduating high school in the year of the Award who plans to continue their education at accredited post secondary colleges, universities or vocational school. Awarding of the scholarship will be at the discretion o the JCI Senators of Florida Foundation, inc. Monies awarded by the JCI Senators of Florida Foundation Inc. must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name recipient and the educational institution of their choice. This scholarship is available to students graduating from a Florida high school and who are residents of the State of Florida.

The NLHA Education Fund was established as a 501(c)(3) organization to raise funds for the purpose of awarding education grants and scholarships to low income individuals residing in federally assisted rental housing owned, managed, or administered by members of the National Leased Housing Association.
