Google Science Fair!!!

Description:
The competition is open to students aged 13 to 18 from around the world working on their own or in a team of two or three. The one (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a US$50,000 Scholarship from Google and his or her choice of experience from CERN, Google, LEGO or Scientific American and a trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions. There will also be prizes for finalists and specific categories...

The Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) Education Fund

Description:
The purpose of the Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) Education Fund is to award scholarships to students attending accredited baccalaureate or graduate nursing and anesthesia programs. Other non-traditional nursing programs may also be eligible. In 2010, scholarships will be awarded in memory of Captain Gussie M. Jones, AN, who died of non-battle related causes in Iraq. She was the first African-American Army Nurse to die while assigned in a theater of operations.

National Federation of the Blind 2010 Scholarship Program

Description:
Each year at its national convention in July, the NFB gives a broad array of thirty scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars.  All applicants for these scholarships:
  • must be legally blind (PDF document) in both eyes, and
  • must be residing in the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico, and
  • must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, postsecondary course of study in a degree program at a United States institution in the 2010 scholastic year, except that one scholarship may be given to a person employed full-time while attending school part-time, and
  • must participate in the entire NFB national convention and in all scheduled scholarship program activities.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the 16th ANNUAL ST. JOHNS RIVER CELEBRATION

Cleanup event is an opportunity to put sparkle back in the city’s crown jewel!
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 12, 2011Volunteers are needed for the 16th Annual St. Johns River Celebration cleanup event.  Participants will spend the morning collecting litter and debris from more than 20 pre-selected riverfront and inland sites around the city. 
WHEN:

Volunteer cleanup: 8 - 11:30 a.m.
(Specific times vary by locations.  See below for more details.) 
Volunteer appreciation event: noon - 2 p.m.  (Riverside Arts Market)

WHAT:
Part of the Florida Great American Cleanup, this event is one of many national and regional volunteer efforts to clean and protect the environment throughout the spring.

In order to register, you must:
·  Meet all minimum GPA and assessment requirements.
·  Submit a fully signed application form. You may use the re-application form if you have previously done a semester of dual enrollment.
·  Submit high school transcripts with cumulative GPA.
·  Submit qualifying ACT, SAT, or CPT test scores if you are new to dual enrollment or have re-tested with new score results.
·  Select course reference numbers for the classes your counselor has approved for you to take.  If all your selected courses are not available, your counselor will be able to e-mail FSCJ later with approved additions. Class schedules will be available for viewing on-line March 25, 2011 at http://www.fscj.edu
·  Be able to complete college course(s) prior to high school graduation date.
·  Submit letter of release from St. Johns River Community College if they are new to dual enrollment and are Clay or St. Johns school district students.

This year, Undie Sunday, May 15th, will be a celebration and collection day at The Jacksonville Landing.  There will be fun activities, music, and prizes throughout the day!  Undie Monday, May 16th, will be the volunteer day at the Dignity U Wear warehouse to sort all of the undies that have been turned in.
Undie Sunday Undie Monday, Dignity U Wear's charity underwear drive, is right around the corner! Last year, efforts resulted in

51,431 pieces of brand new underwear and socks! 

This year's goal is 66,000 pairs of brand new underwear to distribute to people in need.  Registration is now OPEN and so easy!

Jacksonville Asian American Alliance Scholarship

2011 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Program Overview:
The Jacksonville Asian American Alliance (JAAA) College Scholarship Program recognizes academic excellence, extracurricular activities and community involvement among high school seniors planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. This year, the program will choose four scholars who will be awarded $1,000 each towards college costs.


Eligibility:
(1) Must be a resident of Duval, Clay, Nassau, Baker, and St. Johns Counties for at least 6 months
(2) Must be a US legal resident
(3) Must be accepted at a four-year college or university
(4) GPA of 3.5 or higher
(5) Must be of Asian descent


Requirements:
(1) Complete and submit Application Form
(2) Submit letter of acceptance to a four-year college or university
(3) Submit two letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with applicant’s character and achievement.
(4) Submit high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores

Camp Healing Powers

Camp eligibility:
  • Open for children between the ages of 7 and 17.
  • The death has occurred at least three months prior to the camp date but no longer than two years.
  • A $35 deposit reserves a camper’s space and is returned upon completion of camp.
  • Pre-camp assessments are conducted by Community Hospice’s mental health professionals who meet with the parents/guardian and child prior to camp to gain an understanding of his/her perception of the loss and its effect on academic performance, home environment, peer relationships, grief reactions, support system and coping skills.
