ATTN: TEACHERS & STUDENTS!

LBS Essay Contest
Since its evolution to Anchor Scholarship Foundation in 2004, scholarships totaling $504,550 have been awarded to 333 students. In 2012, 35 scholarships totaling $73,000 were awarded to high school and college students from 13 states; all full time students in 4-year accredited U.S. universities coast-to-coast and in the District of Columbia.
Step one:
Are you eligible to apply?

The Anchor Scholarship is awarded to dependents (children and spouses) of our Surface Navy sailors.

The sponsor will either be active duty, retired or deceased. The sponsor must have served a minimum of  six (6) years in units under the administrative control of Commanders, Naval Surface Forces,  U.S. Atlantic or U.S. Pacific Fleet.  The six years need not be consecutive.

The applicant must attend or plan to attend an accredited four-year college/university in the U.S. and intend to work toward their first BS or BA degree full time.  The applicant may be a spouse, high school senior, or a college student in an accredited school or equivalent institution.

The deadline to submit the eligibility application is March 1, 2013.  Remember-it's a deadline, and it's firm.

Step two:
The scholarship application

Once your eligibility is confirmed, we will send you the scholarship application. Get organized now!  Gather the following documents:

*     FAFSA (5-6 pages, the Electronic Student Aid Report)
*     College/High School transcripts
*     3 letters of recommendation (one of them must be from a non-academic source)
*     SAT/ACT scores

Step three:
The hardest part...waiting

Our Selection Committee reviews all of the applications. Recipients are selected on the basis of four equally weighted criteria:

                . Academic Proficiency

                . Character and All-around Ability

                . Extra-curricular Activities

                . Financial Need

Those selected to receive an Anchor Scholarship are notified in May and invited to attend our Award Ceremony in June.

CALLING ALL STUDENT LEADERS!

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation’s Student Leaders® Program is accepting applications for the 2013 program.

Since its inception in 2004, the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 1,800 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities.  The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:

·         A summer eight-week paid internship with Communities In Schools.  Communities In Schools is a local non-profit selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.

·         The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 8-12, 2013. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

In order to spread the word about the opportunity to your members, partners, and affiliates, please distribute the email. If you would like to receive an electronic announcement, please contact us and we will send them to you.

We appreciate your help spreading the word about the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. Students can apply for the program by going to www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders. Please note the application deadline of January 25, 2013.

COMMUNITY SERVICE project of the week:

Murray Hill Theatre is a non-profit, faith-based music venue located in Jacksonville, Fl. We are dedicated to providing a positive and safe alternative to nightclubs, by putting on concerts every Friday and Saturday night. Our goal is to share the love of Jesus Christ and to reach out to the youth and young adults of our city.
We are a volunteer driven organization that is always in need of individuals who would like to lend a helping hand. We ask all volunteers to serve once a month for at least four hours. Hours would be served during our show times. We depend on a great team of dedicated volunteers to put on concerts. Volunteer roles would include ticket seller, ticket taker, cafe worker, snack bar worker, security, merchandise seller, and tour runner.
