COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES IN HONOR OF DR. KING

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the first national holiday of the New Year. While many people get the day off from work, HandsOn Jacksonville is choosing to make it a day ON, not a day OFF. 

Come join HandsOn Jacksonville in community service as they commemorate the inroads Dr. King made toward equality.  Here are some of the opportunities available:

Saturday, January 15
Get a head start and join HandsOn JacksonvilleHOPE worldwide in creating a community garden for an adult day care center. More Info

Monday, January 17
Join us at the Teacher Supply Depot for one or more projects:
  • Work at various work stations to sort, make sense of, prepare and organize shipments and donated items so they can be distributed during monthly giveaways to  Duval County Public School teachers.
  • Bring the kids for family friendly projects that include creating global peace tiles  (art project to promote peace and diversity); peace bracelets to be donated to a selected nonprofit organization in Jacksonville; Hugs for the Homeless (warm, no sew scarves wrapped in a hug); assembling snack kits for children; decorating mini flower pots for seniors and creating cloth reusable bags for our environmental clean ups.
  • View a documentary of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and join a facilitated group discussion to address ways we can better face community challenges.
