About Robert Austin

Robert Austin departed this life on May 29, 2013. Robert was a dedicated member of the Jacksonville community and past president of the First Coast Diversity Council. He displayed a strong commitment to the multi-faceted aspects of diversity and inclusion; championing mentorship and sponsorship programs that focused on recruiting, developing and retaining a diverse pool of talent that supported the mission of his organization, Deutsche Bank.

We look forward to continuing his passion for diversity and inclusion by fulfilling the First Coast Diversity Council's mission, and offering this scholarship in his honor.

Scholarship Eligibility

Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in Spring 2014 or enrolled in a 4 year accredited college
Intend to enroll or re-enroll full-time in an accredited 4-year college beginning in Fall 2014
Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above

Scholarship Selection

The organization will select 3 college scholarship recipients in 2014. The scholarship will reward 3 full-time undergraduate students with $1,000; paid directly to the university. Selection criteria will focus on exceptional academic ability and achievements, persistence, a desire to help others, diversity and inclusion as well as leadership. A rigorous application review includes:

Student essay in a minimum of 1,000 words double spaced highlighting ways in which the candidates idea of diversity has influenced their leadership within the community/school
3 letters of recommendation (1 Community Leader, 1 Manager of a First Coast Diversity Council Member Company and 1 Professor or Teacher)
School transcripts
Completed application form

Application Timeline and Application

The application, letters of recommendation, essay and transcripts are due by Wednesday, April 30^th. Scholarship finalists will be notified by the beginning of June. Winners will be announced at The Robert Austin Scholarship Banquet in July. How do I see my counselor?

WALK-INS WELCOME!

Before or after school you can always come by to see us! Especially if you aren't trying to catch a bus. If you are a bus rider, the best way to see us is to make an appointment.

APPOINTMENTS ENCOURAGED!
We want to give you our UNDIVIDED attention and with the number of tasks a school counselor has, that can be difficult when walking in or simply stopping by. Student Counselor Request Forms can be picked up in guidance (before or after school or between classes) and dropped off in guidance (before or after school or between classes). They sit on Ms. Menter's desk. Simply fill one out, leave it for us and we will be sure to call you out of class!

2-1-1

United Way 2-1-1 is the suicide intervention and prevention helpline for this region and the call center is nationally accredited by the American Association of Suicidology. Call center specialists are also certified and trained to handle crisis and suicide-related calls.

MISSION

Our mission as School Counselors at Edward H. White High School is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that attends to the personal/social, academic, and career preparation/college planning needs of all students. Services include group and individual counseling, academic support (educational resources), responsive services, career and college planning, and student and family advocacy. Our goal is to promote a commitment to life-long learning, personal and academic growth, and to aid students in becoming responsible, culturally aware and productive members of society. This foundation will be supported and further strengthened by consultation with educators, administrators, parents, and community advocates.

PHILOSOPHY

The school counseling department at Edward H. White High School believes that every student should be treated with dignity and value. We will strive on a daily basis to provide services to all students through a comprehensive school counseling program.

The comprehensive school counseling program at Edward H. White High is:

Fundamentally based on the belief that all of our students can learn and achieve at their highest potential with proper support from staff, parents/guardians and the community
Planned and implemented by the Edward H. White School Counseling Department, based on guidelines from the Duval County Public School’s Office of Guidance Services and all stakeholders who support the academic, career and personal/social development of students
Committed to providing a comprehensive, developmentally sound program of services based on the ASCA national model to meet the needs of our diverse population and evaluated by data driven models
Proactive in the delivery of the Edward H. White High School Counseling Curriculum and in monitoring student’s academic, career, and personal/social achievements

Are licensed by the Florida Board of Education
Participate in on-going staff development to increase our knowledge, skills and abilities to better serve our students.
