Blood Donor Scholarship for Seniors

 The Blood Alliance High School Blood Donor Scholarships For Senior Class Students

What: The Blood Alliance (TBA) is very excited to announce its High School Blood Donor Scholarship for this school year. All public and private high schools in TBA service area that host blood drives during the school year will be included in the challenge. TBA recognizes the need to support high school students who not only excel in the classroom and seek post high school education, but also excel in community service. TBA will award 15 scholarships to High School Seniors in the upcoming school year based on the school’s performance with each blood drive, blood drive frequency, student participation, student GPA, and essay review. The scholarship winners will be awarded $1,000 each for post high school education tuition.

Who: Parents, faculty, and staff as well as high school student donors. Any 16 year-old donating for the first time must have his or her parent(s) or legal guardian(s) sign a consent form which gives permission to donate at any additional drives for the duration while they are 16 (17 and 18 year-old donors do not require parental permission). Female donors ages 16 to 18 may donate every 112 days to ensure their iron levels are not negatively impacted by donating the usual interval of every 56 days.

Why: High school students are a new generation of blood donors. Their donations encourage them to save lives, inculcate a sense of community service, and help ensure an adequate local blood supply for the hospitals that TBA serves.

Criteria: Public and private high schools that currently host blood drives with The Blood Alliance need to host a minimum of three blood drives during the school year at your high school to be considered for the scholarship.  Students at these schools will need to donate or register to donate for at least two of those blood drives to be eligible for the scholarship.   Public or private high schools that have never hosted a blood drive with The Blood Alliance, can host their first high school blood drive to be considered for the Scholarship.  Students at these schools will need to donate or register to donate for at least one blood drive to be eligible for the scholarship.&nbs p;

How: Applications and scholarship specifications are available at www.igiveblood.com!

FACT The Blood Alliance must collect 360 pints every day to meet the needs of area hospitals.
