New Bachelor's degree in Computational Science @ FSU!!

The Department of Scientific Computing is pleased to announce that The Florida State University Board of Trustees has approved the implementation of a new B.S. degree in Computational Science, starting in the Fall 2010 semester.
The new degree program should be of interest to and is well suited for those who like working on computers and who ordinarily would also be interested in any of the mathematical sciences (mathematics, computer science, statistics), or the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, geological sciences, ...), or any engineering discipline. Thus, students in the new degree program will learn how to develop and apply new computational tools to solve science and engineering problems.
The newly established Department of Scientific Computing is the focal point of computational science activities at FSU. Computational science involves the invention, implementation, testing, and application of algorithms and software used to solve large-scale scientific and engineering problems. The Department provides a venue for innovative research and education in scientific computing. Our faculty come from a wide variety of traditional mathematical and scientific disciplines who are primarily interested in developing knowledge and tools for computational science and applying those tools to the solution of problems in a variety of applications.
Please note that computational science is different from computer science. At the risk of oversimplifying things, one can say that computer science is about the science of computers whereas computational science is about the use of computers to solve science and engineering problems.
The new degree program, along with the already established Master's and Ph.D. programs, trains students in computational science by providing them with a mix of theory and practice, including substantial hands-on experience in the deployment and use of algorithms for scientific computing.

Before or after school you can always come by to see us! Especially if you aren't trying to catch a bus. If you are a bus rider, the best way to see us is to make an appointment.

APPOINTMENTS ENCOURAGED!
We want to give you our UNDIVIDED attention and with the number of tasks a school counselor has, that can be difficult when walking in or simply stopping by. Student Counselor Request Forms can be picked up in guidance (before or after school or between classes) and dropped off in guidance (before or after school or between classes). They sit on Ms. Menter's desk. Simply fill one out, leave it for us and we will be sure to call you out of class!

2-1-1

United Way 2-1-1 is the suicide intervention and prevention helpline for this region and the call center is nationally accredited by the American Association of Suicidology. Call center specialists are also certified and trained to handle crisis and suicide-related calls.

MISSION

Our mission as School Counselors at Edward H. White High School is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that attends to the personal/social, academic, and career preparation/college planning needs of all students. Services include group and individual counseling, academic support (educational resources), responsive services, career and college planning, and student and family advocacy. Our goal is to promote a commitment to life-long learning, personal and academic growth, and to aid students in becoming responsible, culturally aware and productive members of society. This foundation will be supported and further strengthened by consultation with educators, administrators, parents, and community advocates.

Committed to providing a comprehensive, developmentally sound program of services based on the ASCA national model to meet the needs of our diverse population and evaluated by data driven models
Proactive in the delivery of the Edward H. White High School Counseling Curriculum and in monitoring student’s academic, career, and personal/social achievements
