Applicants must:

• Be high school seniors or graduates or be current undergraduate students
• Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university based in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the entire 2014–15 academic year (excluding proprietary and online schools)
• Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study. See the list of eligible majors.
• Be interested in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries
• Be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States or Puerto Rico

Excluded from consideration are employees and relatives of employees of Scholarship Management Services, Scholarship America and their affiliates and subcontractors, and GM Foundation Directors, Officers, and staff and their relatives. Although GM employees are not eligible, relatives of General Motors employees are eligible.

REWARDING ACHIEVEMENT, EXPERIENCE & COMMITMENT

Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors:

• Academic achievement and financial need
• Participation and leadership in community and school activities, work experience and interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industry
• Please note special consideration will be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of military personnel

The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in Engineering/Technology fields.

Recipients of the 100 Buick Achievers National Scholarship will receive:

• An award of up to $25,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.

FSU Service Scholars Program

Florida State University is pleased to present the application for the Service Scholar Program.  The Service Scholar Program recognizes select incoming students with an outstanding record of community service and leadership, and who want to continue that commitment at FSU. The Program benefits include a scholarship valued at $2,400 per year for up to four years, participation in a service-learning academic curriculum, exposure to a diverse group of individuals and social issues, and support by an assigned faculty mentor.

An important part of continuing the success of this extraordinary Program is recruiting excellent incoming students. MILITARY FAMILY RESOURCE

A New Resource for Military Families is Launched

A new website, Parenting for Service Members and Veterans, http://militaryparenting.org/ has been launched just for military families. Parenting for Service Members and Veterans is a first-of-its-kind resource addressing the unique challenges of parenting in military families. This anonymous self-help course is designed to provide military parents with the skills and resources they need to improve their parenting and connect with their families. There are interactive activities and stories of real military and veteran families that will provide valuable skills for the everyday challenges of raising military children, with particular emphasis on reconnecting following a separation such as deployment and to give military and veteran parents the skills and tools to build stronger families. The course and content were developed by experts from the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs. FAME

Set your sights on a star-studded future by being a participant in FAME (Format for Affecting My Enrollment).

As Florida State College at Jacksonville's longest running pre-college program, FAME strives to prepare students for a success entry into postsecondary life. FAME is designed to give students in grades 10 through 12 activities. These activities range from college preparation checks with guidance counselors for 10th graders to college entrance exam testing for seniors.

The FAME program also provides students and parents an opportunity to meet successful Jacksonville citizens who serve as inspiring examples. Like the College Reach-Out Program (CROP) students, FAME students receive help in setting career goals and discovering their academic potential. If eligible, high school juniors who complete the series of sessions can participate in an expense-free two-week college orientation program at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Who qualifies?
• Students in grades 10th – 12th
• Students who want to succeed in college programs
• Students who meet program academic and economic criteria

What program activities are offered?
• Math, reading, life skills and technology classes
• Career Day
• Parent Workshops
• College/University field trips
• Student talent show

Where is the program held?
The program meets mainly at Florida State College at Jacksonville's Kent Campus, with some events held at other FSCJ campuses and centers. 

When is the program held?
FAME kicks off each January.

Time is running out for exceptional student leaders to apply for the 2014 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program. Created to honor the legacy and character of President Ronald Reagan, this program annually rewards up to 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per recipient).   Like President Reagan, candidates use the formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve, and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities.  Help put promising young leaders in the running for this prestigious award by sharing this news with scholars who exemplify these characteristics inside and outside the classroom and encourage them to apply. 9th Annual Teen Entrepreneurship Conference

It’s HER Business

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from UNF.

The It’s HER Business Teen Entrepreneurship Conference is a one-day conference for girls ages 15-18 enrolled in high school.  We are now in our 9th year.  This event brings parents, students, school administration, and women business owners together in one forum and has so far exposed over 800 young women to a whole new world of opportunities. 

It is designed to encourage financial literacy and help girls learn about starting businesses and managing personal finances through interactive games and hands-on activities.  We use successful local business women as conference facilitators/mentors to share their ideas and experiences with the participants.

•          Must be 15-18 years of age and enrolled in a Duval, Clay, or St. Johns County High School to attend.

•          Both Forms must be either e-mailed/scanned to: mhague@unf.edu, faxed to: (904) 620-2567 OR mailed to: Marice Hague, Small Business Development Center at UNF; 12000 Alumni Drive; Jacksonville, FL  32224 by Friday, February 1, 2014.  The forms are also located online.
