We are currently accepting application, Monday - Friday from 9am - 3pm at the Apprenticeship Office.

 The following is a list of requirements in order to join our program:

- Be 18 years of age or older

- Furnish a copy of your Birth Certificate & Social Security Card

- Furnish a High School Diploma and an Original Transcript of High School Grades. If you have a G.E.D., furnish an official G.E.D. certificate and official G.E.D. test scores.

- Furnish a copy of your valid Drivers License.

-Furnish 2 reference letters.

- Be physically able to perform all tasks of the Iron Working Industry and pass a physical examination by a medical doctor if accepted into the program.

- Submit to a substance abuse test as required by the JATC.

- Be willing to submit to a back ground check.

- If a veteran, submit a copy of discharge form D.D. 214.

- Agree to participate in any remedial instruction required by the JATC.

All of these documents must be submitted with the application in order to have a completed application.  Without these documents submitted, the application will not be recognized.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2014 - 2015 SCHOOL TERM WILL BE APRIL 4, 2014. COMPLETED APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED NO LATER THAN 4:45 P.M. ON FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2014 AND WILL BE DELIVERED BY THE APPLICANT.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED AND RETURNED PERSONALLY BY THE APPLICANT. APPLICATIONS ARE NOT TO BE MAILED INTO THIS OFFICE.

Applications for entry into this program are accepted without regard to race, religion, color, sex, or national origin.

All applicants must:

1. Be 18 years of age or older by time of interview.
2. Furnish a copy of birth certificate and valid driver's license.
3. Be a high school graduate by June 7, 2014. Furnish a high school diploma AND an official transcript of high school grades. If you have a GED, furnish an official GED certificate AND official GED test scores.
4. Furnish an official Driver History Record from the Division of  Drivers Licenses in Tallahassee covering seven years. (Form provided by this office.)
5. Be physically able to perform all tasks related to the plumbing and pipefitting industry and pass a physical examination by a medical doctor if accepted into the program.
6. Submit to a substance abuse test as required by the Committee.
7. If a veteran, please submit a copy of discharge form DD214.
8. If your last name is not the same of that which is on your birth certificate, you will have to provide proof of your name change.
9. Be of good moral character.
10. Satisfy the Joint Apprenticeship Trustees that you have the ability and desire to master the trade.
11. Agree to participate in remedial instruction required by the Joint Apprenticeship Trustees.
12. Abide by the Standards adopted by the Joint Apprenticeship Trustees.

In addition to the above stated minimums, a good background in mathematics, science, drawing, shop or industrial arts is desirable. 
Please note that the applications are for the apprentice school year starting September 2014. No apprentices will be selected or put to work from total number of applicants until all applicants are interviewed by the Trustees.

The Florida Youth Leadership Forum (YLF)

The Florida Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is an annual career and leadership training program that is both educational and motivational. Sponsored annually by The Able Trust, the YLF brings together rising high school juniors and seniors each summer to spend a long weekend in Tallahassee learning about community and academic resources, disability history, career options and personal leadership. They also take part in social activities which enable them to network, learn from each other and build friendships that will last a lifetime.

The YLF is one of three youth programs of The Able Trust that works to reduce the dropout rate of youth with disabilities and improve their participation in employment related activities. These programs focus on building self-esteem, developing personal leadership skills and preparing young adults with disabilities for life beyond high school.

YLF Selection Criteria

To participate in the Florida Youth Leadership Forum (YLF), a student must meet the following requirements:

• Be a Florida rising high school junior or senior under the age of 19 (students should be preparing to enter the 11th or 12th grade at the time of the YLF in July.)
• Have a disability as recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Show demonstrated leadership potential
• Show participation in extra-curricular activities and community involvement
• Possess the ability to interact effectively with other students,
• Be capable of adapting to new surroundings and following an intense schedule of forum activities,
• Demonstrate a willingness to participate in small and large group discussions.
• Show proof of health insurance (private insurance, KidsCare or Medicaid are acceptable)

The three technology scholarships are being offered to academically talented Fall 2014 freshman applicants who wish to major in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems.

Selection Criteria for Undergraduate Technology Scholarships Include:

• Strength of curriculum and academic performance throughout high school
• Interview with the dean and/or faculty from the School of Computer Science and Mathematics
• Declaration of Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems as program of study
• Full-time enrollment at Marist starting Fall 2014

FREE ACT/SAT Prep!

JAMES WELDON JOHNSON has two ACT prep course sessions at the James Weldon Johnson ACT Center #3054 this Spring, both for current high school students and for students who earned a Certificate of Completion:

·        Our first session began on January 14^th and goes until February 6^th.

·        Our second session will begin on February 25^th and goes until April 10^th. 

The ACT prep sessions are timed to lead right up to the April Saturday testing of the ACT. The class is free of charge and meets here at James Weldon Johnson ACT Center #3054, 1840 West 9^th Street, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30-6:00 p.m.  They are more than happy to help anyone who would like to come.
