C. Student Council representative.

The top ten students will be invited to interview by Skype with our US Senate office staff and then the top two students will receive $5000 scholarships and a trip to Washington DC to have a first hand experience with government.

Senate Bill 4 rolls out the beginning of the state End of Course (EOC) Exams which will eventually replace the 9th and 10th grade FCAT.
* In 2010-2011, all students enrolled in Algebra 1 will be required to take the state EOC exam. For students entering 9th grade for the first time in 2010-2011 and taking Algebra 1, the state EOC will count as 1/3 of the student’s final grade. For all other students taking Algebra I, the state EOC will replace the district EOC in the calculation of the final grade (1/18).

Miss Delta Teen Pageant

The Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be hosting its 37th Miss Delta Teen Pageant, "Developing Sisters of Tomorrow" on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Florida Theatre. There are many benefits for participating in this pageant. UNF On-Site Admissions Decisions @ their Open House

As many of you know, the University of North Florida offers On-Site Admission Decisions at their Open House events held each Fall and Spring. Their Fall Open House will be held October 2, 2010. This year they are asking that students who are interested in an On-Site Decision please have their application and official documents to their office two weeks prior to the event. Students must RSVP for this event and have a complete application package (application, $30 fee, transcripts, and at least one test score) to the University by September 17, 2010.

The Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair SCHOLARSHIP

Over the last 56 years, the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair Association is proud to have contributed over 2.5 million dollars to local charities and awarded scholarships to worthy students who have exhibited a desire to further their education. The Association's purpose in offering these scholarships is to encourage personal growth and assistance to qualified students planning to major in agriculture, veterinary medicine and other fields of study. The deadline for receiving Scholarshp applications is October 10th.

At time of application, a student must be a be a resident of Duval, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Nassau or St. Johns County and at least a high school senior, enrolled or planning to enroll in a four year university, junior college or technical institution. The scholarship application must include an essay, (500 words or less) briefly discussing the applicants background and leadership abilities. Applicants should list any community, high school, college, sorority, fraternity or religous organizations in which they are now or have been involved and their leadership experience within those organizations. The application package should also include three, (3) origional letters of recommendation.

Scholarship funds are assigned to and administered by the applicant's college, university or technical institution. Should the chosen applicant leave school, any unused portion of the scholarship will be returned to the Fair.

Although the application may be e-mailed (jaxfair@bellsouth.net) or faxed (904-353-5458) the three lettters of recommendation must be originals and can not be faxed or e-mailed. They can be delivered or mailed to the office of the Greater Jacksonville Fair Association to complete the scholarship application package by October 10th.

Only complete packages will not be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee whose decisions are final. Scholarship winners will be anounced during the Greater Jacksonville Fair.

Boselli Award of Excellence

The Gator Bowl Association is proud to offer the Boselli Award of Excellence, a college scholarship program targeting student leaders who are achieving academic excellence while also striving to reach their full athletic potential. Scholarships are awarded to one male and one female qualifying senior to assist in furthering their educational goals. Scholarships are awarded as a one-time $5,000.00 gift that may be used at any accredited University or Community College. Applications are accepted each year from high school seniors from Florida’s First Coast who meet the following criteria:

• Maintain a 3.0+ GPA (on an unweighted 4.0 scale) from an accredited high school in Florida’s First Coast area
• Participate in a junior varsity or varsity sport or its equivalent

What is JALACARE?
JALACARE is the Jacksonville-area chapter of CARE, a national financial literacy education program adapted by JALA for high school seniors in Duval County. JALACARE trains attorneys to teach 3 hours of financial literacy to Duval County high school seniors during the economics curriculum that is required to graduate. JALACARE is attorneys teaching Duval County high school seniors the 10 Rules for financial success:

set up a written budget

set financial goals

credit is a debt decision

shop, compare, and ask for the best rates and terms

Preliminary totals indicate they're still well below the allotted 50 student slots in each of the five Superintendent’s College Bound Academy ACT/SAT Preparation programs. Although the initial design and intent was to allow students who have yet to pass the FCAT an opportunity to earn concordant scores through either of these college entrance exams, we wanted to make sure you were aware that ANY student who attends a Title I high school is eligible to attend. Students who complete the program receive the following benefits:

- Waived requirement of Intensive Reading in for the fall semester

- Free SAT registration fee for September 12th exam

- Free ACT registration fee for October 9th exam

The United States Senate Youth Program (AND SCHOLARSHIP)

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 49th annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 5 - 12, 2011.
Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $5,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

As of June 2nd, Wachovia had not received any scholarship applications!!

Wachovia and the Jaguars are proud sponsors of First and Goals, a program that reinforces the importance of setting and working toward Math grade goals. The program is in place for all Duval County public schools during a student's 7th and 8th grade years.
As part of the program, any student who participated in the program during their Middle School years, are eligible to apply for one of several $500 College/Junior College scholarships to be awarded to local seniors in 2010. You will also note that these students must have been accepted to a College/Junior College for the fall of 2010 due to the fact that payments on behalf of our winners are made directly to the school. See Mrs. Curran in guidance for an application if you are eligible.
