Walmart Associate Scholarship

Description:
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States.
  • Must be employed part-time or full-time with any division of Walmart for at least six consecutive months prior to the appropriate application due date (see chart on the website). Must have graduated high school/home school or obtained a GED before applying.

Description:
The BBG Communications scholarship is designed for students between the ages of 16 and 21 who are currently in or will be attending an institution of higher education in the Fall of 2011.
To be considered eligible for the BBG Communications Scholarship you must:
A) Be between the ages of 16 and 21 on June 30, 2011
B) Submit answers to the two essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 30, 2011 deadline.
C) Have at least one full year of post secondary studies remaining at the time of the award
D) Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Scholarship for Hispanic students who qualify - "Achieving the Dream"

The First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FCHCC) and the Mayor's Hispanic American Advisory Board (MHAAB) are proud to continue with its tradition of supporting education in our Hispanic community. The FCHCC and MHAAB have established scholarships in the amount of up to $2,000 to be awarded to Hispanic students who meet the following criteria:
  • The applicant must be currently accepted to and planning to attend a two or four year university during the 2011-2012 fall term, or currently a full-time undergraduate or graduate student and has a cumulative GPA average of 3.0 or better.
  • The applicant must be at most a third generation Hispanic, a Permanent Resident Alien or U.S. citizen with established residency in the Florida First Coast region: Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Baker or Nassau Counties; for at least three (3) years prior to the awarding date of the scholarship
  • Applicants must submit:
    • completed application
    • official transcript
    • proof of acceptance or enrollment in a two or four-year university or grad school
    • essay between 400-500 words on why you need or deserve this scholarship
    • two professional letters of recommendation
    • resume (if application is for graduate school)
  • The stipend will be used to pay for tuition and/or books and will be in addition to and not to conflict with any other scholarships or grants the student may be entitled to.

Engineering and Architectural Scholarship for 2011 High School Graduates                                       SAMEJAX.org

The Society of American Military Engineers will grant scholarships in 2011 to graduating high school seniors who wish to seek studies in engineering or architecture.  Please read the instructions carefully and fulfill all of the requirements.  Should you have questions that your parent, guidance counselor or principal cannot answer, please contact our local representative using the address or telephone number below.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1) Be a high school senior.

2) Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application.

3) Be a resident of Clay, Duval, St Johns, Camden, or Nassau counties.

4) Have at least a 3.0 grade point averaged based on a 4.0 scale.

NOTES TO THE APPLICANT

1) The judging will be conducted by the local Jacksonville Post SAME Scholarship Committee on the basis of each candidate’s high school record.

2) The courses you have taken and the credits earned for the 9th through the first semester of the 12th grades will be used to help evaluate your application.  You will be disqualified if a certified copy of your transcript is not submitted with the application.

3) Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit, solely on the content of the application.  Applicants will be scored on the following: Academic Grades, Honors, Awards, Extracurricular Activities and an Essay.

4) Enroll in an engineering or architecture program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or the National Counsel of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB).

5) Scholarships will be paid directly to the university or college financial aid office.  All scholarships are contingent upon your enrollment in a full-time status in an engineering or architecture program and being accepted by the college or university of your choice.  Applicants must intend to earn a degree in engineering or architecture and to enter the practice of engineering or architecture after graduation.

6) The announcement of all winners/non-winners will be made in July 2011.

7) Keep a copy of your completed application for future reference.

ACD Summer Computer Camp

Bringing Broadway to your kids - ages 9-17!

Camp Broadway introduces young people to the world of life on-stage and behind the scenes. Training in acting, scene study, improvisation, music theory, solo and ensemble singing, movement and dance make up the intensive class work. Triple-threat workshops give one-on-one instruction in singing, dancing and acting. It has been proclaimed the "Camp of Dreams" for all those starry-eyed kids who are just beginning to dream of being on Broadway someday. It is a self-contained summer workshop that travels around the country, bringing Broadway to kids. Aspiring young campers learn about the theatre from 10 NY staff members of Broadway performers, choreographers and musicians. The 40 hours of camp include singing, dancing and master classes for kids ages 9-17 and every kids gets their own head shot, t-shirt and Camp Broadway star to hang on their door. With authentic Broadway instructors teaching dance routines & musical numbers at the same break-neck speed as a real Broadway show, Camp Broadway is a fun-filled week of activities designed to teach kids about the serious business of live theater.

Clean up & help the library!

Doing a little spring cleaning? Drop off your gently used books, movies and music CDs at the BOOKtique located in the Main Library near the Laura Street entrance or at the University Park Branch Library Saturday Morning Bookstore from 9am-12pm on Saturdays. The Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library will add your donated items to their next Great Jacksonville Booksale. All funds raised at that event support the library, so get cleaning!!!

Youth Summer Employment @ Jax Urban League

The Jacksonville Urban League, Inc. employs youth between the ages of 16 and 21 to work in its Operation Brightside Summer Employment Program. Participants are employed for a period of seven weeks; they are placed with specific positions in various non-profit organizations throughout the city. The program provides education, economic empowerment, training and employment opportunity that prepares youth for the real world of work.

Available positions: tutors (reading, math & science technology), office staff (interns, tech lab asst., section leader, camp assts., and administrative assts.) and environmental specialists (maintenance crew, food service workers, recreation team captains).

Description:

    We know its short notice but we wanted to make you aware that CollegeWeekLive is hosting CollegeWeekLive FLORIDA DAY – an online showcase of colleges and universities for students interested in studying in the state of Florida – TODAY from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.  Students, parents, and guidance counselors are invited to login to the event to connect with admissions representatives and current college students from the convenience of a personal computer.

    Prospective students can explore unique characteristics of the participating colleges, including admissions, academics, athletics, financial aid, and campus housing.     Description:

    The Deborah L. Vincent/FAHRO Education Scholarship

    Description:
    The Deborah L. Vincent/FAHRO Education Scholarship is developed to assist residents of federally assisted housing or a recipient of assistance through the Community Development Block Grant program in Florida. Recipients must be a high school senior and expected to graduate no later than August 2011 or currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution. All applicants must meet income requirements as defined by HUD for public/ assisted housing and Community Development Block Grant targeted area recipients. Applicants must have a sponsor that is an active member of FAHRO as a housing authority/ agency or community development agency that is willing to support recipients travel expenses to attend Annual Convention awards banquet to receive scholarship if selected. Final selections will be announced at the 2011 Annual Convention and Trade Show.
