Hicks often shares his journey from being a struggling middle school student to serving as the student body president of Florida State University, responsible for leading one of the nation's largest student populations and managing a $10.3 million budget. New Bachelor's degree in Computational Science @ FSU!!

The Department of Scientific Computing is pleased to announce that The Florida State University Board of Trustees has approved the implementation of a new B.S. degree in Computational Science, starting in the Fall 2010 semester.
The new degree program should be of interest to and is well suited for those who like working on computers and who ordinarily would also be interested in any of the mathematical sciences (mathematics, computer science, statistics), or the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, geological sciences, ...), or any engineering discipline. Thus, students in the new degree program will learn how to develop and apply new computational tools to solve science and engineering problems.
The newly established Department of Scientific Computing is the focal point of computational science activities at FSU. Computational science involves the invention, implementation, testing, and application of algorithms and software used to solve large-scale scientific and engineering problems. The Department provides a venue for innovative research and education in scientific computing. Our faculty come from a wide variety of traditional mathematical and scientific disciplines who are primarily interested in developing knowledge and tools for computational science and applying those tools to the solution of problems in a variety of applications.
Please note that computational science is different from computer science. At the risk of oversimplifying things, one can say that computer science is about the science of computers whereas computational science is about the use of computers to solve science and engineering problems.
The new degree program, along with the already established Master's and Ph.D. programs, trains students in computational science by providing them with a mix of theory and practice, including substantial hands-on experience in the deployment and use of algorithms for scientific computing.
More information about the new degree program and a sample academic map are found at http://www.academic-guide.fsu.edu/
under "Computational Science." Information about the Department of Scientific Computing is found at http://sc.fsu.edu/

Interested in a career in Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is one of the fastest growing professions in the country. Massage Therapy is regulated by the Florida Department of Health and is considered a Healthcare profession in this state.

The oldest and most respected Massage Therapy School in Jacksonville is again waiving the usual $9,000.00 tuition for their 900 hour advanced massage therapy program.
That’s right, absolutely no tuition for an entire year of training! There is an initial (one-time) enrollment fee of $200 and a small monthly fee of $99. That’s it, no other fees are charged by the school. Neither a student loan or financial aide is required. Students graduate ready to take the state licensing exam without having the usual college debt. Everything is paid for by the end of graduation.
Current and past students frequently ask “Why would anybody borrow $12,000.00 to $24.000.00 for tuition to learn massage therapy when you can learn from the best for next to nothing?”
Florida leads the country in massage education and can boast of having some of the finest massage instructors anywhere. Nowhere is this more evident than at Alpha School of Massage, which has 2 instructors that have been teaching there since 1995.
While some schools are closing their massage therapy programs, Alpha School of Massage is expanding their massage program. Unlike many of the other massage programs which are taught at schools that offer several other programs (such as ultrasound; nursing assistants; medical assistants; radiology; etc.) massage is the only program taught at Alpha. This enables their staff to focus and expand their knowledge and expertise completely on massage and massage related topics.
There aren’t any tricks or gimmicks to this offer. Channel 4 news aired a story about this wonderful “no tuition” opportunity in July, 2007. We have also been featured in a few other local television stories, as well as having a full page story in Folio Weekly. This is a fantastic opportunity for your students that don’t want a traditional 2 or 4 year college degree, or can’t afford one.
